As we get older, our bone mass will decrease. Actually the condition is natural. Bone mass in women is relatively reduced faster than men. This is due to menopause, where the function of ovaries decreases dramatically which affects the production deficiency of estrogen and progesterone. When the hormone estrogen drops because of advanced age, there is a decrease in the activity of osteoblast cells that contribute to the formation of new bone. In addition, decreased estrogen hormone also causes an increase in osteoclast cells that play a role in bone destruction. The explanation is also answering the question why women are more susceptible to osteoporosis? By nature, osteoporosis is more common in women who are about 2.5 times more often than men.

Causes of Osteoporosis
The cause of osteoporosis is generally divided into two categories, namely the cause of primary and secondary osteoporosis. The cause of primary osteoporosis is due to menopause and old age. While some secondary causes include: the use of corticosteroid drugs, metabolic disorders, poor nutrition, poor absorption, bone marrow disease, impaired renal function, liver disease, chronic lung disease, spinal cord injuries, rheumatism, and organ transplants. Osteoporosis usually occurs gradually. Starting from a normal bone condition, then bone loss begins until it becomes a severe osteoporosis. Osteoporosis can also be grouped by cause or underlying circumstances. For example, postmenopausal osteoporosis, senile osteoporosis, and idiopathic juvenile osteoporosis. Postmenopausal osteoporosis occurs because of the lack of the hormone estrogen that is the main hormone in women. This estrogen hormone helps regulate the transport of calcium into bone in women. Usually such symptoms occur in women between the ages of 51 and 75, although they may also occur earlier. Not all women have the same risk for osteoporosis. Statistically, white and eastern women are more susceptible to this disease than black women.

Senile osteoporosis may be the result of age-related calcium deficiency and an imbalance between the rate of bone destruction (osteoclasts) and the formation of new bone (osteoblasts). This senile is only happening at an advanced age. The disease usually occurs in people over the age of 70 years and 2 times more commonly affects women.

Less than 5% of people with osteoporosis also have secondary osteoporosis caused by other medical conditions or drugs. This disease can be caused by chronic renal failure and hormonal abnormalities, especially thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal hormones. It can also be caused by the use of drugs such as corticosteroids, barbiturates, antikejang, and excessive thyroid hormones. The consumption of alcohol and cigarettes can make things worse.

Osteoporosis juvenile idiopathic is a type of osteoporosis that the cause is unknown. This occurs in children and young adults who have normal hormone levels and function, normal vitamin levels, and do not have a clear cause of the fragility of bone. Bone loss just happens to be a known cause. Although the odds for a small, idiopathic juvenile osteoporosis do not recognize the age of the sufferer.
